About Starlink and how Logic Consulting can help
What is Starlink and how does it work?
Starlink is a satellite internet constellation project
developed by SpaceX. The goal of Starlink is to provide high-speed, low-latency
internet access to users around the world, particularly in areas where
traditional broadband infrastructure is not available or unreliable. The
project is still in its early stages, but SpaceX has already launched hundreds
of satellites into orbit and plans to continue expanding the network in the
coming years.
The Starlink system works by using a constellation of small
satellites in low Earth orbit (LEO). These satellites are designed to
communicate with ground stations on Earth and with each other using a network
of lasers and radio waves. The network is managed by a sophisticated software
system that can route data traffic across the network in the most efficient way
possible.
To use Starlink, customers will need to purchase a small
satellite dish, which SpaceX calls a "user terminal." The user
terminal is designed to be easy to install and can be placed anywhere with a
clear view of the sky. Once the user terminal is set up, it will automatically
connect to the Starlink network and provide high-speed internet access to the
user's device.
One of the key advantages of Starlink is its low latency.
Because the satellites are in LEO, they can provide internet access with much
lower latency than traditional satellite internet services, which use larger
satellites in geostationary orbit. This low latency is particularly important
for applications like online gaming and video conferencing, where even a small
delay can be noticeable.
Overall, Starlink has the potential to revolutionize the way
we access the internet, particularly in rural and remote areas where
traditional broadband infrastructure is not available. With its high-speed,
low-latency connection, Starlink could enable new applications and services
that were previously impossible, and help bridge the digital divide between
urban and rural areas.
How can I obtain Starlink and get it working?
First, you need to sign up on the Starlink website to ensure that the service is available in your area. Once you have confirmed that Starlink is available in your region, you can place an order for the Starlink kit, which includes a satellite dish, a Wi-Fi router, and mounting hardware. Once the kit arrives, you can follow the instructions in the kit to install the satellite dish and router. You will also need to download the Starlink app to your device to complete the setup process. The app will guide you through the process of connecting your devices to the Starlink network.
Can Starlink be mounted on a wall?
Starlink can be wall-mounted, roof-mounted or remain on its foot bracket. With other clients who have had flat roofing available, we have been able to attach the Starlink foot brackets to weighted feet, meaning they will remain in a secure position all year round.
Starlink Dishy also comes with the snow melt functionality so no need to worry about impaired service because of snow settling on the dish.
We are able to provide installation services for Starlink including running the cables to your chosen location (maximum 50m from router position).
Can I use my own router with the Starlink service?
Yes, however, the Starlink ethernet adapter will need to be purchased separately.
The Starlink router, which accompanies the Dishy device, does not have an ethernet port, so you must purchase this separately to connect to your existing router.
